Antonio Torres Fuster deftly channels the artistry and spirit of the Pre-Raphaelites in this stunning oil on canvas. Torres Fuster began his training at the Ateneu Tarraconense de la Classe Obrera and completed it at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. Though he also composed landscapes, he stood out in particular for his paintings of Spanish dancers and singers. The art historian Francesc Fontbona observes that his paintings depict an ideal of feminine beauty close to modernist symbolism, and it is these works that are most highly collectible and sought after today.
