Details
A classic display of Art Deco elegance, this double-strand pearl necklace by J.E. Caldwell & Co. is a stunning example of American luxury design. The design is composed of 366 near-round, oval and button saltwater pearls ranging from 2.75mm to 4.12mm with exceptional luster. The accompanying report from the GIA confirms that the pearls are natural saltwater, originating from the Pinctada oyster species, with no indications of treatment. The strands culminate in an elegant platinum clasp, set with 0.85 carats of diamonds of F-G color and VS clarity.

J.E. Caldwell & Co., founded in 1839 in Philadelphia, became one of America’s most prominent jewelry retailers, known for its elegant Art Nouveau and Art Deco creations. Originally supplying European jewelry, silver and objets d’art to affluent Philadelphians, Caldwell soon developed a reputation for beautifully crafted American jewels. By the late 19th century, the firm was creating finely chased, gem-set Art Nouveau pieces and later embraced bold Art Deco styles. A celebrated exhibitor at the 1876 Centennial Exposition, J.E. Caldwell played a pivotal role in shaping American taste in fine jewelry.
